The Scandium Solution Metallography combines various functions for analyzing metallographic samples quantitatively. It includes normed grain-boundary reconstruction, cast iron analysis and microhardness testing. All analytical results are in accordance with national and international standards such as ASTM, DIN and JIS. Other national or company standards can be included as well. The Scandium Solution Metallography handles all processing steps including sample positioning, measurement, analysis and metallographic-analysis reports. Virtually all standard intercept methods as well as planimetric techniques are supported by grain-size measurement. All measurement techniques can be applied to single-phase samples using dark or light boundaries; to multiphase samples using stepped grain boundaries. Aside from the G-value, even more detailed measurement results are available including: G-value histograms, carbide depletion, dual grain-size distributions, elongation, etc. Furthermore this solution analyzes cast iron automatically or manually with regard to shape and size and determines the ferrite/pearlite ratio in accordance with international and national standards. And Scandium Solution Metallography provides the Knoop and Vickers methods for determining hardness. Hardness is calculated based on evaluation of the indent diagonals. This provides the hardness values and the hardness profile.
