1. How to avoid that more than one database record has the same 'record' name?
It is possible to give different database records the same record name. If you don’t want duplicate names, you can use the function “Auto Record Name” with the options %n %i.

2. Loading images stored as JPEG-without-compression is not possible with third party applications
There are only a handful of programs available on the market which can handle this special JPEG-without-compression format. To save such lossless images please use the uncompressed TIF format this can be read by many applications.

3. Loading 16-bit images in other applications is not possible if the images were stored with the image analysis software
Many applications, like Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Word, only support a small variety of possible TIF standards. They don’t support the 16-bit TIF image format. You have to switch the color depth of such images to 8-bit or 24-bit using the image analysis software.

4. Burning with Nero Burning ROM software is only possible if you are an administrator
There is a tool available called “NeroBurnRightsInstaller.exe” from Ahead Software that allows users without administrative rights to burn files. You find it in the attachment. Please note that only an administrator can install this file. If you need help with this tool please contact the support of Ahead Software.

11. Is my version of the Image Analysis Software compliant with the Microsoft operating system Windows XP?
Image Analysis Software version 3.1 and earlier:
These versions of our software were programmed and released quite some time before Windows XP was released.
Obviously, we were thus not able to predict, which requirements would be needed within Windows XP (especially the new drivers).
This means a trouble-free work of such an Image Analysis Software version on a PC running Windows XP would not be possible.

Image Analysis Software version 3.2 and later:
The Image Analysis Software 3.2 was launched in mid-November of 2001. As you probably know, Windows XP was launched a little bit earlier.
Our developers have put a great deal of effort into integrating the Image Analysis Software 3.2 into Windows XP. We can therefore ensure that the Image Analysis Software 3.2 is now fully compliant with Windows XP.

12. DirectDraw error 2005532447 appears after a 3D screensaver was active
We figured out that the problem occurs if the system is running with Dual Screen in combination with a 3D screen saver.
Our developers know this problem. There is no solution so far. They recommend not using a 3D screen saver.

13. As a member of the Windows user group “Users“ I do not have enough privileges to run the Image Analysis Software without any problem.
As a standard “User” you normally do not have the privilege to save a file into the directory “C:\program files”.

Please ask your administrator to change your account to be a member of the group “Power Users” or let him change your privileges for the Image Analysis Software directory only. You need full access to the program folder of your Image Analysis Software.

14. Sample macro for using a job on all images
Please have a look to the macro in the attachment. This macro will start on the first selected image buffer and run the same operation on all other image. The macro stops automatically on the first empty image buffer. To change the macro to your own requirements please remove the line 'SetGrayLUT();' and fill in your commands.

Please note: The macro works properly only with image manipulating operations and will replace the image in the actual image buffer. If you are using a operation that will take the next image buffer as result you create a endless loop

15. How to update the Image Analysis Software without loosing your configuration
Copy the Image Analysis Software program folder into another folder. This is recommended to have a fully functional system backed up. During the installation of the Image Analysis Software make your choice to Update. With this setting no configuration data will be overwritten.

16. Can I make a simple copy of the Image Analysis Software program folder?
Yes it is possible. The Image Analysis Software has no specific registry keys. So it's very simple to backup the complete directory of analySIS (e.g. on CD).

17. I can't update my Image Analysis Software under Windows 98 to version 3.2
This indicates a problem with the existing HASP driver (Dongle) in your system. Please remove the old HASP device driver manually from your system. Please put your Image Analysis Software CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive. After some seconds the auto start option of the CD will show you a new window. Please close this window. To uninstall the old driver please open the DOS prompt in your Windows and follow the steps. Note 'CD-ROM:' means the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive (e.g. your CD-ROM is assigned to letter D, then type D: and not CD:). Please confirm each line with pressing the 'Enter' key.

CD-ROM:
cd program
hinstall –r
exit

The HASP device driver now uninstalled. You can start your normal update installation now without errors.

18. How to change file names which have been changed after burned on a CD
To set back the capital letters in the database please use the small program in the attachment. This offers you a easy way to set back the file names the way you need them. You don’t need to install this tool. You can start with a simple double-click.

19. The framegrabber GrabBit does not work in a new PC environment
This error occurs because the image analysis software can't recognize the framegrabber. Please make sure you don’t have one of the following components in you computer.

These listed components are not compatible with the GrabBit:

Chipset:
- Intel 9xx and follows
- nVidia nForce2 MCP
- AMD-8000
- Chipsets with PCI standard 2.3 only (only 1.5V on PCI bus)
- Chipsets with PCI-Express support

Motherboards:
- ASUS A7N8X-X
- Tyan K8W S2875

For ATI chipsets:
- RS300: Snapshot is OK, Live image only available if online histogram is turned on

If you do not have one of the above mentioned components, please try the following:
a) I/O- address conflict: Open the file '...\analysis\grabi432.ini' with an editor and change the following line [Hardware] Base=2A0 to Base=310 (or 320, etc.)
b) Change BIOS settings of the mainboard: Some BIOS versions offer a setting 'Cut off power on unused PCI slots'. Please deactivate this function.
c) The GrabBit is not compliant with the new hardware. If it is not an I/O-conflict or the BIOS setting, the revision of the GrabBit you are using is not compliant with your new hardware environment. PCI bus version 2.2 or earlier (5 Volt BUS) IS REQUIRED!

20. How can I use greyed out functions in the menus?
This is not a problem of your installation.
• Please check the package you have. In some packages like 'Docu', some commands are not available.
• Some functions are not available for ‘false color’ images. Check the type of image you are working on. This is also true for images at different bit depths. (16 bit vs. 8 bit, etc.)
• Make sure there is an image in the buffer, and that it is selected.

21. Where is my image analysis software configuration stored?
Please have a look at the attached file. Please click on the file name below.

HandOuts_DEU.pdf
HandOuts_ENG.pdf
22. Naming conventions of filenames in the Image Analysis Software
Please add a decimal point at the end of the file name. The Image Analysis Software will save all characters as name before the last decimal point.

23. Switching off the status bar
In the menu Window -> Status Bar you can switch on and off the line.

24. Can I change the size of the overlay’s ‘cross’ for counting?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the size of the setting crosses during measure or counting particles.

25. The scale bar unit is now "pixel" and not "µm" anymore.
The images were stored in the JPEG format. This format does not store additional information in the image file (such as magnification, overlays, etc). It is recommended to use the TIF format to store images on the hard drive. This format allows you to store information such as magnification and overlays in addition to the image information. To save on disk space, you can also select a compressed TIF format.

26. A macro to read out all pixel values from an image and copy them to a data sheet
Find the attached macro, which copies all pixel values from the whole image to a data sheet.
To analyze a section of that image, it has to copied and pasted with the frame function to a new image buffer and run the macro again.

27. How can I have all my manual measurement results in one sheet?
This information is for users only using the Image Analysis Software version 3.2.
After the first measurement, highlight the next empty column. The next set of measurements will be in the highlighted column.

30. Can I change the path/location of my FDA (WinDream) database?
No, it is not possible to change the paths of a FDA (WinDream) database because the paths are hard coded.

31. Computer crashes with "KMode exception not handled"
This is a problem of the Logitech Mouse driver. If you remove the USB mouse and start windows, there should be no problem. You can plug in the mouse at the log-in screen and start windows without any problems.

To avoid these problems, there are two possibilities:

1.) Connect a PS/2 mouse instead of an USB mouse

2.) Remove the Logitech driver and use the standard Microsoft driver

32. Viewing the Live image in full screen mode
Maximize your Image Analysis Software window and press the button 'Fullscreen'. Now you have the live image on the whole screen.

33. How to calibrate images which are not taken with the Image Analysis Software or stored in JPG format?
Please use the module DCCalib to calibrate the images. In the attachment you will find directions for the module.

DCCalib_DEU.pdf

34. Viewing large image comments that contain multiple lines
That’s normal. It is possible to type a large comment into the field, but the first line is shown only.

35. What's the maximum size of the image analysis software database?
In theory, the database files (*.MDB, *APL and *.MTB) can reach a size of 2 GB each. But, in practice, this limit is unlikely to ever be reached since the size of these files depends on the information stored in the DB fields. Images, on the other hand, are stored in their own directory structure and do not affect the size of these files at all. The size of the thumbnails file (*.TNB), however, is limited to 30 MB. If you reach this limit, a new thumbnail file will automatically be created for you.

37. Error 5000546 occurs while creating a new report
This error occurs when you don’t have enough free space on your hard disk. Please free up some disk space or store your report in a different location.

38. Is it possible to create a new database volume manually?
Yes, you can create a new database volume manually. First, you must open the database exclusively. Go to the settings of the database and increase the value “…VOLx” by 1. This step is important for removable data media. Second, when you save the first new record, the Image Analysis Software will tell you that the volume identifier doesn’t exist in the destination directory. You thus have to select the first option in the drop-down menu to create this identifier.

39. Why does the image analysis software intraScope / telePresence not function on a PC which is behind a firewall?
The image analysis software application intraScope / telePresence is not able to communicate through firewalls. We recommend setting up a VPN connection between the client and the server system. This gives the administrator full control of the security settings. The other possibility is to “open” the firewall. The image analysis software application telePresence uses Port 135 and one dynamic port in the range between 1024 and 65535. Additionally “NAT” or “Masquerading” can not be used together with the telePresence software.

41. Problems with Windows XP Service Pack 3 and non ROHS Olympus Soft Imaging Solution FireWire cameras
Olympus Soft Imaging Solution has discovered a problem with non ROHS conform FireWire cameras and the Service Pack 3 of Windows XP.

After installing the Service Pack 3 or running a fresh Windows XP installation including Service Pack 3 the Image Analysis Software cannot find the attached FireWire camera. Also in the device manager of Windows the camera is not listed under Imaging Devices. This problem is not related to the Image Analysis Software.

All older Olympus Soft Imaging Solution FireWire cameras are affected. If you have a new ROHS compliant camera you do not have this problem. To identify if your camera is affected please check the last two digits of the serial number of your camera. If these digits lower as 61 the camera is affected.

Please have a look to the attached documents to find out how to resolve this issue.

43. The live image while using IntX is flickering
This problem can occur when the exposure time is too short. It must be higher than 1ms because of the ‘normal’ flickering of light sources that occur with the 50/60 Hz power grid supply of AC. If the exposure time is too short, you get an image from the ‘darker’ parts of the light source. Light sources operating with DC are not affected.

Alternatively you can switch off the light sources working with 50 / Hz power grid alternating current.

44. In an Image Analysis Software archive database the thumbnails are lost
To re-create new thumbnails in your database please follow the next steps. Please note that this will be only successful if you have not made any changes on the database since the error occured.

In the attachment you will find a module to repair your database. This is only possible with the entire database.

Make a backup of the defective database files (*.mdb, *.mtb, *.tnb) and of the whole Image Analysis Software program folder as well.

1.)
Please copy the attached file to you local hard disk (e.g.: C:\Temp)

2.)
Start your Image Analysis Software.

3.)
Please go to the menu “Special” -> “Add-In Manager”, click on “Add” and load the module you had copied under point 1.)

4.)
Open the relevant database.

5.)
In the “database” menu you have a new entry: “Create new thumbnails”. Please click on it. Now the thumbnails will be newly created.

6.)
Deactivate the module after successful re-creation in the Add-In-Manager and delete them from your hard disk.

45. DirectDraw error 2147467263 occurs while starting the Image Analysis Software
This error occurs on older versions of the Image Analysis Software (version 3.2 build smaller as 810) and only with some hardware- and software-environments. Since the Image Analysis Software version 3.2 build 810 is released the error is fixed.

46. During the image analysis software installation, an error message may occur on some Windows XP based PC’s.
This error is not critical because all necessary files have already been copied and settings were changed at the time the error occurred.
To correct this problem please install the patch which Microsoft provided by following the link below.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329623

47. How to setup a multi-user image analysis software system
The following shows the procedure to setup a multi-user image analysis software system:
- Log onto the Windows operating system as an administrator and create the desired user accounts. Make sure that every user has the privilege to have write access to the image analysis software directory.
- Install the image analysis software application as an administrator and activate the setting 'Startup with user dependent settings' in the Special menu -> Preferences -> View tab.
- Now you can log into the system as the appropriate user, start the image analysis software and make changes according to your needs.

48. How to add a button for direct export to Microsoft Word inside the Image Analysis Software „Report“ module and what are the settings of it?
Since the Image Analysis Software version 3.2 build 819 this functionality is implemented. To activate the button the following entry must be added in the analysis.ini file. The file is stored in the installation folder of your Image Analysis Software. Please open this file with a text editor like Notepad and look for the section [Report]. A section inside of the analysis.ini file is written in square brackets. In this section enter the new key. Afterward the section could look like:

[Report]
WordExport=1

After saving the file and a restart of the Image Analysis Software you have the desired button available in the report menu bar.

For the direct Export to Word the images will be converted to JPG with 75% compression and 300 DPI resolution. These values are not changeable.
