 The first camera that Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions, known as Soft Imaging System at that time, brought onto the market was a side-mounted TEM camera: the MegaView I. That was some time ago but the development of cameras for transmission electron microscopy remains one of the central tasks in hardware development. There have been some significant changes at OSIS since then. Among other things, I joined the group of the TEM camera developers end of 2007.
I am a professionally trained physicist. I completed my studies including doctorate work, at the University of Dortmund. The main focus of my work was in the area of experimental solid state physics and optics. While there, I investigated light-material interaction and charge carrier dynamics in semiconductor quantum dots using nonlinear spectroscopy methods.
Optics and optical measurement technology was also the focus of my first career stop: I was involved in developing optics (sequential ray tracing), simulating illumination systems (non-sequential ray tracing) and calculating diffractive optical and holographic structures.
I have been here at OSIS as the development coordinator for TEM cameras since November, 2007. A TEM camera is also within the optics field as far as the part I am familiar with is concerned. Many other things were new for me. A good orientation schedule and the support of my colleagues has helped me to start to feel comfortable quickly. This has enabled me to conduct my own projects and process them independently after a relatively brief time. And I get to do all this on a team where everyone takes the time to help each other out with any questions or problems that turn up.
